Product Review: KS Moisture Conditioner

Now that the weather is warming up, I plan to implement conditioner only wash ("co-wash") as needed. Yesterday was a day that needed it. I went riding and afterward, my hair was so sweaty that I had to wash it. I did a co-wash with the Kirkland Signature Moisture Conditioner. The first time I used it was in Jamaica to co-wash my hair after going to the beach.

Twists on My Natural Hair

This is how I wore my hair this past week. I used Giovanni leave in to style and Curl Creme Brule every day to refresh it.

Curly Style Recap

In my post about the various hair styles I wore while in Jamaica, I included a picture of this formal curly style. Here are some more pictures and a brief recap of how I achieve the style and maintained it all day long.

It was one week between my relaxer and the wedding I attended. So that was 7 days of hot, sometimes humid, one day rainy conditions that my hair dealt with.  Dirty hair is not ideal to work with when trying to create a curly style, but I was prepared with my steam rollers. Here's the kicker: the curls lasted without any hairspray, gel, or mousse. How is that possible in Jamaica's high temperatures? Well this is how I did it.

The Hairdo That Almost Didn't

Bantu knot that did not set properly

Yesterday I did 7 bantu knots with the hopes of wearing a bantu knot out today.

When I woke up, I found that one of the bantu knots became undone while I slept, so it did not set properly.

Buns Away!

Before
On Saturday, my hubby and I went to the symphony and I wanted to wear an elegant hairstyle. The problem was that my hair was very dirty from horseback riding the day before. So, I did a quick up-do with no combing or heat products.

Throwback Hair Picture: August 2009

August 2009
Here is a picture of my hair taken the month before my wedding. This was immediately after my relaxer and before my stylist did the trial run for my wedding hairstyle.

It is always exciting to find pictures of my hair that I forgot about. The pictures either inspire me to get back to the length and/or thickness pictured, or they remind me of how much progress I've made.

How do you feel when you find old pictures of your hair?

Coupon Alert! 20% off at Folica.com

I bought both of my Sedu flat irons from Folica.com. So if you have never heard of them, I can vouch for them being a legitimate company. I've been considering getting a high-end blow dryer so this might be a great time to make the investment.

Hair Styles I Wore in Jamaica

Curly style for wedding (more pictures to come)
Vacations are often a challenging time for hair styles. Even with limited styling tools and resources, your styles don't have to be limited also. While in Jamaica, I wore a variety of styles based on the day's plan and the weather.

When it was extremely hot (as opposed to the usual very hot), I wore a ponytail. For a wedding I wore a curly style. I will do a featured post on how I achieved my curly style shortly.

Hair SOS: Mommy Edition

Satin covered roller with my mom's hair

My mom's hair has been on a whirlwind journey the past couple of years. It went from being very thick and long to short and thin because of hormonal changes due to menopause (she doesn't mind me sharing that). It is amazing just how much your hormones affect your hair. Now that her hormones are balanced again, her hair has made a complete turn around for the better. She cut her hair to shoulder length and has a low manipulation regimen, which works for her.

A few months ago, she told me that her ends were getting thinner. She suspected that because her hair was getting longer, her ends would naturally get thinner. I disagreed with her rationale and suggested that something she was doing was causing her ends to thin. I talked about that in my thread here. While in Jamaica, I assessed her ends and noticed a slight thinness. Then I looked at the products she used. Lo and behold, I found the culprit.

Family Features: Healthy Relaxed Hair

My aunt has one of the thickest heads of hair I have ever seen.  She is Type 4 and relaxes her hair. Her hair is mostly thick/coarse type 4, except for her nape which has silky/fine strands. I should have taken a picture of the edges, because it shows that hair type is not always the same all over your head.

Her ends make me want to reach for the scissors and cut 5" LOL.

(ETA: I meant that her ends make me want to cut my hair..sorry for the confusion).
