When "Life" Gets in the Way

Hi friends!

Gosh, I've missed you guys. It's been way too long since my last post. What have I been up to you ask? In two words: a lot.

My Book. The book is coming along splendidly. I had to find another Copy Editor because the first one I planned to used was no longer a viable option. But everything happens for a reason and I'm practicing patience with the writing process. The release date will still be this summer.

My Hair. I've been wearing my wig for the past six weeks and I'm loving the freedom from having to style my hair everyday. I'm also loving that I don't have to wash my hair every weekend. My scalp has been behaving well enough that I can successfully wash the leave-out hair only and not experience itching.

This weekend is the first time that I've worn my real hair out. I'm down in Florida for MsNastassja's engagement party and didn't want to risk feeling hot. It is great being able to rub my scalp, but I got used to not worrying about the wig LOL. I have to actively remind myself about cotton and handbags straps with my real hair.

So how about I lost my silk hair bonnet. I took it off when hubby got home one day, and can't remember where I put it. It's in the house, but its been two weeks since I've misplaced it, so I'm going to order another one this week. Any website suggestions of where to buy a 100% silk bonnet? The website I used back in 2008 is sadly out-of-business now.

My Life. Life has been good, but busy. I was sick for about one month with a horrible cold. I've taken up yoga at the suggestion of my horseback riding instructor. My wig is actually comfy enough for me to wear during yoga. I'm planning to enter my first riding competition next month. Work is work; not as much fun as my book LOL.

So what have you been up to these past few weeks?

December Update

Christmas tree shopping!
Hi everyone!

Sorry for the impromptu hiatus. It has been a very busy month with the holidays, work, my book, etc. So here are some pictures of what I've been doing the past few weeks (with pics of my hair of course).

January Hair Update

Here's a brief summary of what I discuss in this video:
  • I cut another 1" because my ends were looking thin.
  • Since my last haircut in October, nothing "bad" has happened to my hair.
  • My stylist and I both suspect that the thin ends were caused by the plastic bands I used to secure my braids when I wash my hair.
  • I will find an alternative way to secure my braids when I wash my hair.
  • My next video will be on my winter regimen - with and without wearing a wig.

Relaxer and Hair Cut Pictures

If you follow me on my Facebook Page, then you already know that I cut another 2" when I did my relaxer yesterday.  I'm very excited about getting my blunt ends back, and don't plan to trim at all next year.  That's the only way I will make my goal of waist length hair by December, 2011.  Here are some  before and after pictures.  My ends were not "terrible" by any means but I wanted to finish the year with blunt ends.

I've been busy...

Hi friend!

Sorry for the pause between posts.  The past few weeks have been busy: hubby's birthday (30 is the new 20), hubby passed the bar exam (woohoo!), and this weekend is our first wedding anniversary (aww) lol. We're going to the mountains this weekend for our anniversary.  We got married in the mountains and both love it up there.

Quick update on my hair - I washed today for the first time in 2 weeks and had excessive shedding.  I suspect that its partly because I haven't detangled in 2 weeks...that's bad, I know.  I lightly blow dried and lightly flat ironed after my wash and it doesn't seem that I've lost thickness.  But the only way to tell is when I do a regular blowdry and flat iron.

I got a little carried away with the Sally's 25% off online coupon and have lots of goodies to show you.  I'll do a haul video when I return.

Some upcoming product reviews on Mizani moisturizer, Mane 'n Tail Detangler, and Curlformers...so stay tuned.

Have a safe holiday!

10 Weeks Post Relaxer Update

I'm currently 10 weeks post and my newgrowth is actually manageable right now.  I planned to do my relaxer this weekend but my scalp started itching, and I'm sure I scratched it while I was asleep.  So in the interest of not having scalp burns, I'm going to wash my hair today and then apply my relaxer next weekend.  That will put me at 11 weeks post, which is well within my goal range of relaxing every 10-12 weeks.

I also bought a new length check t-shirt, so I can better track my growth progress.  I'll take lots of pictures and will try to record some video as well.

Don't you just hate it...

when "life" gets in the way of your hobbies? LOL

My hair is one of my hobbies and recent life events (i.e. my Birthday) have gotten in the way of me keeping up with my websites (and my hair for that matter). So here is a quick update:

  • YouTube Giveaway
    • I had some difficulty finding the items for the giveaway but after visiting 4 different stores, I finally found what I was looking for (the stores were out of stock).  So I will post the giveaway video next weekend.
  • Regimen
    • I have been airdrying and doing 4 cornrows for a braidout style the past few weeks.  My husband randomly asked when do I plan to flat iron my hair again, so I'm taking that as a hint and will flat iron this weekend.  I'll record a video showing how I blow dry and flat iron my hair.
    • I'm currently 5 weeks post relaxer and already see newgrowth.  I plan to relax at 10 weeks.
  • Wig Blog Post Series
    • Since I cut my hair, I decided to buy another lace front wig that is shorter, rather than cut the lace wig I currently have.  I prefer to keep the length the same or shorter than my real hair.  This way, I don't experience length shock when going from a longer wig to my real hair.  I will continue the blog post series after I receive the lace front wig.
I hope you are all doing well.  Happy growing and as always, I appreciate your support.
