Relaxer in T Minus 7 Days!

11 weeks of newgrowth, I will relax at 14 weeks
If you follow me on Twitter, then you already know that I got extremely sick this past week. I'm not back to 100% yet, but I am feeling much better.

My relaxer is next week Saturday and I'm beyond excited. I will find out whether I made waist length in 2011. Now I know this is 2012, but since I only do length checks after each relaxer I had to wait.

Happy New Year!

I'm so excited about the new year. As a general rule, I don't make resolutions. After almost 10 years of unsuccessfully "resolving" to gain weight - yes, you read that right - I gave up on the whole institution.

My Stylist, My Inspiration

Here is a recent video that my stylist Reniece posted about her hair journey. I was brought to tears when I watched this, honestly. She has been such an inspiration to me over the years. Especially at the beginning of my hair journey when I needed it the most.

Waist Length! (And a Hair Cut)

Blow dried, before hair cut
If you follow me on Facebook, then you may already know that I reached waist length after my relaxer yesterday. But I was waist length for less than 5 minutes because I promptly got a 3" haircut.

My New Hair Inspiration: Kimora Lee Simmons

When I first started my hair journey, singers Aaliyah (may she rest in peace) and Amerie were my celebrity hair idols.  I also had non-celebrity hair idols from the hair forums including Adrienne and AJamaicanDiva.

Well today I saw this picture of Kimora Lee Simmons and I love her hair.  Whether this is only her hair or she has some assistance for length is neither here nor there.

Its good to have a hair inspiration photo to help you along your journey.  I'm a firm believer in the power of positive thinking, and visualizing what you want for yourself as a tool to manifesting it into your life.

Who is your hair inspiration?  Leave a comment with a link to your hair inspiration photo.

My Hair: One Year Ago

Blow dried hair. January, 2010
The longest my hair has ever been is a few inches below waist length.  Unfortunately, it was that long for a very short time.  I didn't like how my ends looked.  So my husband gave me a trim which put me back to waist length.

Come to think of it, I completely forgot that he cut a couple inches at the beginning of last year.  Which brings the total number of inches I cut last year to at least 9".

When I started my hair journey, I was very resistant to even lightly trim my ends.  Now I can't seem to stop cutting LOL.  I may need to add "No more cutting for the rest of the year" to my list of 2011 Goals.  I certainly need to stop cutting in order to reach my length goal of waist length, by December 31, 2011.

Sometimes we have to look back at how far we have come in order to move forward.

How was your hair one year ago?

Happy New Year!

I'm so excited about the new year.  I shared in my previous post that I prefer to set concrete goals and mottos to live by.  Here are some of my hair related goals for this year:
  • Redesign my blog
  • Finish my book (more details to come)
  • Post at least 15 times per month
  • Have better quality videos
  • Achieve waist length by December, 2011
As for my motto, I decided on "Today is the Day."  I got the inspiration for my motto after I felt oddly compelled to read "Oh, the Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuss.  It's okay, you can laugh.  I'm currently reading "Anna Karenina" by Leo Tolstoy, and felt like reading something lighter.  I was surprised by how much deeper the Dr. Seuss book is than I remembered.

This is a new year and a new day.  Whatever your goals are, today is the day to get started.  How will you maximize today?

2010 - Year in Review

Amazing isn't it?  That the year has come to an end already.

I stopped making "resolutions" a few years ago and decided instead to focus on tangible goals and create a personal motto for how I live my life.  There's a difference between saying "I want to grow my hair" and saying "I want to retain 4" of length, stretch my relaxers to 10 weeks, and reduce direct heat."  The latter is more concrete and thus easier to track progress and recognize when you have achieved your goal.  My personal motto this year was "Live, and let live" and "To each their own."

My Achievements
One of my goals for 2010 was to start this hair blog and my youtube channel, so I can help women grow their own hair.  I am amazed at the growth of both website and I'm excited about what 2011 will bring.

In my very first post, I made promises for what the blog would offer to my readers.  I believe I lived up to those promises and hope you agree.

New Hair Goal: Hip Length in 2012

I've been wrestling with the idea of growing my hair to hip length for some time now.  Reaching waist length was a major accomplishment, especially considering the countless setbacks I've experienced.  Having reached waist length, I'm confident that I can reach hip length in two years.

The great thing about setting hair length goals is that it forces you to track your progress.  Many of us are reluctant to take pictures of our hair because we either don't want to the face the truth about the current condition of our hair or we feel silly taking pictures of the back of our head.  I've experienced both emotions but am happy that I decided to take pictures of my hair because I have a sense of accomplishment when I compare pictures.  When I'm comparing pictures because of a setback, I feel encouraged that I can regain the length and/or thickness I lost.

Will I keep it at hip length?  Well, that's a question for my future self to answer (LOL).  But for now, my long term goal is to grow my hair to hip length by December 2012.  My short term goal is to reach waist length by December 2011.

Will you join me in setting both short and long term hair goals?  If so, take a starting point picture today and post it on the Kibibi Hair Facebook Page.
