What Day Is It Today? It's My BIRTHDAY!

Today is my birthday and I had a wonderful birthday weekend. It started on Saturday when my husband  surprised me by having my sister, MsNastassja, fly in from med school to spend the weekend with me. I was so shocked, I started screaming and backed up to the wall. LOL. Then I started crying hysterically because I was so happy to see her. They had a whole weekend of events planned and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers, grandmothers, aunties, sisters and pet-mothers (I'm a pet mother myself). I believe it takes a village to raise a child and every woman is a mother to those children, whether they are biologically related or not.

Blog's One Year Anniversary!

Today is the blog's one year anniversary!  I'm so amazed at how quickly one year has elapsed.  Check out my very first video debut above.  Read my Growth and Setbacks post to learn about what caused each setback.

When I started my blog as "Coarse Hair, Long Hair" I was very anxious about how I would be received. It you have ever posted a video on YouTube then you understand just how daunting it can be to share such a personal side of yourself. The online world mimics the real world in many ways, including the feeling of being vulnerable when you open up to strangers. I am fortunate that 99.9% of the feedback I received was positive.

Thank you for following my blog and my journey.  I truly appreciate all the love I get from my readers, YouTube subscribers and Facebook Fans.

Sister Sister: Introducing MsNastassja

I'm so excited about the feedback I've received about my sister's hair. My goal is to help all women, relaxed and naturals, achieve their ideal hair health and length. To that end, my sister will be posting on Kibibi Hair about her natural hair journey. The frequency of her post will depend on her schedule. She is currently in her first year of medical school and naturally (no pun intended) that takes priority.

She will be posting as MsNastassja (unless she decides otherwise), so look for her name in the "by" line of future posts.  Although you will soon come to recognize the difference in our "voices."  To my chagrin, I'm not nearly as witty as she is (smile).

As an aside, Nastassja (pronounced "Nass-tass-sia") is her middle name.  Just as Kibibi is my middle name.

I'm so excited about the updates, and I hope that you find the changes more user-friendly.  I appreciate all the feedback when I asked for suggestions. Thank you for continuing to support me and my website.  You, my readers, are the best.

All of the old posts and comments have been transferred to the new blog.  However, here is what's new:

• Style Gallery - Pictures of various hair styles that I wear.

• Hair Basics - Basic reference guide.

• Truncated posts - To speed up the website's load time, I will truncate long posts.  To read the entire post, just click "Read More."  This will be especially helpful for viewing the website on a smart phone, iTouch, or other mobile device.  

• Related Posts - This feature shows you related posts.

I am "Sick as a Dog"...

as the saying goes.

I know I promised to record a video with winter regimen tips.  Unfortunately, I now have the flu, and can't talk for more than 2 minutes without coughing up a lung.  My dog, Wisdom, is keeping me company, but he keeps trying to lick my ear.  I think he knows that I'm sick and is trying to make it all go away.  I'm too weak to fight against it, so while I lay on the couch he cleans my ear...hmm, was that too much information? Excuse me if it was, my judgment is altered because of the illness. 

Anyway, I'm taking meds and vitamins, drinking tea, gargling with warm salt water, slathering myself with Vicks vapor rub, washing my hands often, and sanitizing everything I touch.  I have all but quarantined myself, so I don't get my husband sick or reinfect myself.    

This will no doubt affect my Christmas hair plans, because I won't have the energy needed to blow dry and flat iron my hair.  Sigh.  On the up side, I will be in Miami for Christmas so the warmer weather should do me some good.

Announcement: Unauthorized Use of my Photos

Yesterday, I received several messages on YouTube and my blog alerting me that someone was using one of my hair pictures to endorse their website and hair products. My photo was not the only one used without permission, and this person had the audacity to even cover up watermarks on several of the photos.

I am not affiliated with this company or any company for that matter.  There are only two websites that I have authorized to use selected photos: Reniece.com and growafrohairlong.com.

I notified Facebook of the copyright infringement issue and they removed my picture. I also sent a cease and desist letter to the scammer. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time this has happened and it probably won't be the last.  Going forward, I will be more diligent about watermarking my photos.

There is a correct way to use someone's photo: ask permission and cite the proper image source.  Using someone's photo to endorse a product they never used is misleading and potentially fraudulent.

I sincerely appreciate everyone who alerted me of the issue.  On a positive note, its funny how we can recognize each other based on a picture of the back of our head (LOL).

Major Blog Overhaul

I'm working on making some major changes to the blog to make it more streamlined, user friendly, and aesthetically pleasing to the eye.  So I'd love to hear your thoughts!  What do you like and dislike about the blog now? Any suggestions?
